New Beginnings for North Korea

December 20, 2011

Now that Kim Jong Il, not Kim Jong the second, is no longer leading North Korea, there is an opportunity to improve the terrible human rights record in the country. North Korea is looking to Kim Jong Un, Kim Jong Il’s son, as the “great successor” to lead the country. But the last thing North Koreans need is more of the same mistreatment from a different Kim.

Here is the legacy Kim Jong Il left behind in his passing. While he may be deified and revered in North Korea, the rest of the world will see him as a terrible dictator who killed thousands of his citizens through starvation, torture and horrible executions. He will also be remembered for the prison camps under his rule where thousands of people who committed no crime spent their entire lives toiling away as slave laborers.
