Welcome to Labor Day

September 5, 2011

My friend and I were discussing our Labor Day weekend plans a several days ago when she asked me about its meaning. Regretfully, I answered honestly by telling her I had no idea.

So after doing a quick search on Google, I found this tidbit from the US Department of Labor:

Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.

I also found this synopsis from History.com. Remember, this country and the rights we have as workers were built on the labor of millions, so let us acknowledge and pay tribute to them all. Solidarity!
