Stop the Oil

March 24, 2011

Over the weekend, the Gulf of Mexico faced yet another setback in its recovery process due to another oil spill that has hit the area. It is the second oil spill the Gulf has suffered in a one year period.

“This is not a large incident in terms of the amount of product, but it is spread out over a large area,” said Coast Guard Capt. Jonathan Burton at a press conference on Tuesday. “We have about a quarter to a half-mile, if you put it together, that has product spread out over a 30-mile line along the coast there.”

While it may not be considered a large incident in terms of magnitude, let’s not forget this area was devastated during the BP/Deepwater Horizon disaster. The last thing the Gulf of Mexico needs is more oil in its water. It’s going to be a long road to recovery for the Gulf; pouring more oil into it won’t assist in this recovery.
