Das Unions

March 2, 2011

78 years ago, on this day, Adolf Hitler banned trade unions in Germany–May 2, 1933.

The trade unions’ offices were closed, their money confiscated, and their leaders put in prison. In their place, Hitler put the German Labour Front, which reduced workers’ pay and took away the right to strike.

Banning trade unions is definitely germane to what is currently happening here in the United States, most notably in Wisconsin.

Much thanks to Oliver for bringing this information to my attention.
