Honoring the Courageous

August 8, 2010

Human Rights Watch has named the recipients of this year’s Hellman/Hammett grants to activists “whose work and activism have been suppressed by their governments.”

Of the 42 recipients, only the names of some and their bios have been made marked safe to be published publicly. Click here to read the list.

It’s unfortunate that not all recipients’ names could be released. But should we be surprised? After all, anyone who dares questions the governments actions can usually find themselves being marginalized or find themselves under attack form the very government that has been instilled to protect them.

Congratulations to the winners. May their work continue on safely.
