Censor Search

March 25, 2010

This past week, Google decided to stand up against the Chinese government by lifting censorship on its searches. For that move, I tip my metaphoric cap to Google.

Does the Chinese government truly believe that by censoring searches on the Tiananmen Massacre, China’s occupation of Tibet or anything that criticizes the Chinese government it can fool its citizens into thinking that these ideas or events did not take place?

According to Huang Hung, there are ways for Chinese citizens to obtain censored searches through a method called “wall climbing.”

Human Rights Watch and Jimmy Wales also applaud Google’s decision. Let’s see if Yahoo and Microsoft follow suit and make the right decision to stop censoring their searches.
