Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

January 21, 2008

I feel a need to mention today because it celebrates the legacy of an important man in United States history. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s contributions to american civil rights as well as human rights will not just resound with people of color but with all citizens of this great country for many generations to come. I have to say that i truly admire his work, his dedication and his perseverance through strenuous and difficult circumstances. Ii cannot even begin to think of the hardships and difficulties this man had to endure at a time when rights for colored people were nonexistent. Please do not look at this day as just another holiday giving you time off from work; look at the difference one individual can make for millions and what he has given to many generations to come.

“I have a dream” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

I looked at it as a day that didn’t give me time off from work – does that count? 😉

Seriously though, you are correct – and it saddens me that it is something of a ‘second class holiday’.
